Asterix and Obelix
Asterix and Obelix are red balloons in poker, and you will know that they are bad news when you see them. These two cards are named after two characters from the comic book series, Asterix and Obelix. They are similar in shape to the 8 and 7 cards. If you turn them sideways, you will see that they resemble an infinity symbol.
They are also referred to as Dead Man’s Hand or A-8. The name is a reference to the hand of famous lawman and gunfighter Wild Bill Hickok, who was killed in 1876. Other times they are called Red Balloons or 99 Red Balloons.
